Joe Root happy with quality of batting in England squad

Joe Root believes that England's batting lineup is in a strong position ahead of the second one-day international against India on Wednesday.

Joe Root has revealed his delight with the depth England possess in the batting department for the one-day international series against India.

The series is set to get underway in Cardiff on Wednesday after the first match was abandoned due to heavy rain in Bristol on Monday, and Root is encouraged by the quality of the batsmen included in the squad.

"Guys have been picked because they're capable of making big scores in one-day cricket and we're in a very good place," the Yorkshire batsman told reporters.

"We've prepared well and it's exciting for us. I don't think there's much of a problem with the batting. [Alex] Hales is an explosive player, very exciting to watch and we're looking forward to seeing him do his stuff."

Hales is expected to make his ODI debut at the top of the batting order alongside Alastair Cook.
