Mark Ramprakash: 'Gary Ballance will bounce back'

England batting coach Mark Ramprakash believes that Gary Ballance has the character to bounce back from being dropped for the third Ashes Test.

England batting coach Mark Ramprakash has tipped Gary Ballance to bounce back from being dropped for the third Ashes Test against Australia.

The 25-year-old paid the price for the Three Lions' poor batting display in their 405-run defeat to the Baggy Greens at Lord's as he was replaced in the side by Jonny Bairstow.

However, Ramprakash believes that Ballance has the character to find his form once again to return to the lineup in the near future.

He told Sky Sports News: "I am a massive fan of Gary Ballance. It was a tough decision to leave him out and I think the selectors will have pondered long and hard about that given the way he got 61 at Cardiff off 149 balls in bowler-friendly conditions.

"He's a tough and resilient character. He's got to go away now, having been left out, think about his game, think about where he can fine tune, look to improve and I think he will come back a stronger and better player."

The third Test starts on Wednesday at Edgbaston.
