Ashley Giles insists that England did not tamper with the ball during their defeat to Sri Lanka on Thursday.

England limited-overs coach Ashley Giles has insisted that accusations of ball-tampering against Sri Lanka are false.

Former captain Bob Willis told Sky Sports News that an unnamed England player had deliberately been damaging the ball, forcing the umpires to switch one of the two balls midway through Sri Lanka's innings.

"We don't tamper with the ball and I hope we can talk about something else," BBC Sport quotes Giles as saying. "There are a lot of headlines about the wrong stuff. The ball was changed because it had gone out of shape."

England lost to their rivals on Thursday, making tomorrow's clash against New Zealand crucial in their ICC Champions Trophy campaign.
