Ex-England coach Ashley Giles: 'Kevin Pietersen and I got on very well'

Former England one-day coach Ashley Giles says that he had no problems with Kevin Pietersen, who has sparked controversy with his autobiography.

Former England coach Ashley Giles has claimed that he doesn't want to get "sucked into" the furore surrounding Kevin Pietersen's new autobiography.

The 41-year-old, who previously worked as England's one-day coach, was asked about Pietersen's book KP: My Autobiography, which contains fierce criticism of some of his former national teammates and coach Andy Flower.

"I don't want to get sucked into it, I don't think this is the day to talk about Kev's book," Giles told reporters.

"I played in a dressing room with Kevin and got on very well with Kev, but similarly with those other guys as well. When I coached them I never had any major issues with any of them."

Giles was speaking to the media this afternoon for the first time since being appointed as the new head coach and director at Lancashire.
