Steven Finn will fill in for the injured Ben Stokes in England's upcoming third Test with Pakistan.
The 27-year-old has edged out Jake Ball for the 11th place in Alastair Cook's team as the hosts look to take a lead in the four-match series at Edgbaston.
Stokes returned from several months out with a knee problem for the second Test at Old Trafford last week but suffered a fresh setback when he was forced off with a calf injury.
"Whichever way you argue it, there's a case for both of them to play," Cook told BBC Sport of his selection dilemma. "We've made the decision, it really was a 50-50 call.
"Jake is very unlucky but it gives Steven a great opportunity to show us the bowler we know he is. This time last year he got five [wickets] for not very many against Australia and he could have picked up even more than that because he bowled beautifully. So hopefully coming back [to Edgbaston] will be fond memories for him."
The third Test gets underway in Birmingham tomorrow morning.
