England captain Eoin Morgan praises his side for holding their nerve in the one-day international win over Ireland.

Stand-in England captain Eoin Morgan has praised his young side after their 11-run win over Ireland.

Morgan captained England for the first time on Thursday as a second-string team took on his country of birth in a one-day international match in Dublin.

Several rain delays caused the match to be shortened as Ireland failed to reach their Duckworth Lewis-revised target of 117.

"Coming on and off the field was testing for us. It was a good challenge and an entertaining game," said Morgan.

"The guys held their nerve and they are ones to look out for in the future."

The uncapped James Taylor, Scott Borthwick, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes all made their international debuts in the match as senior players Kevin Pietersen, James Anderson, Ian Bell and Alastair Cook were rested.

England's senior players are expected to return for the upcoming one-day international series with India, which gets underway on Saturday, September 3 in Durham.
