Alastair Cook scores 39 on Essex return

Turning out for Essex in a friendly fixture, England skipper Alastair Cook posts a score of 39 runs.

England captain Alastair Cook scored 39 runs on his first outing since the winter's Ashes in Australia.

Representing his county side Essex, the 29-year-old hit seven fours during a warm-up encounter against Cambridge MCCU.

However, having faced 124 deliveries, the left-hander was trapped lbw by 20-year-old bowler Alasdair Pollock.

Essex begin their County Championship campaign against Derbyshire next Sunday.
