Alastair Cook retains England one-day international captaincy for Sri Lanka tour

Alastair Cook keeps his place as England ODI captain for the team's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

Alastair Cook has retained the England one-day international captaincy for the team's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The batsman's position had been in doubt following a poor summer at both Test and ODI levels.

However, the 29-year-old will lead the side both next month and at next year's World Cup, as confirmed by chief selector James Whitaker to Sky Sports News.

Ravi Bopara and James Taylor both return to the squad, but there is no place for Gary Ballance following his impressive summer in the Test side.

James Anderson, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Ian Bell and Joe Root have also been selected by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

England play the first of seven ODIs against Sri Lanka in Colombo on November 26.
