England take control of the third Test against India by snatching seven wickets as the hosts close the day on 273 runs.

England have put themselves into a comfortable position in the third Test against India after the visitors' bowlers dominated the field on day one in Kolkata.

Monty Panesar and James Anderson stood out for England as the spinner took two wickets on the opening day, while Anderson snatched three, including that of Sachin Tendulkar, who clinched a half-century but failed to cause any serious damage to the visitors.

England started off brightly by dismissing Virender Sehwag for 23 and later bowled out Cheteshwar Pujara, which left India slightly rattled on 88-2 at lunch.

Tendulkar was able to set the pace for the home side, while wickets continued to fall around him but once the 'Little Master' was dismissed for 74, wickets began to tumble.

India were forced to close the day on 273-7 following a dominant performance from England, who lost the vital toss this morning.

The four-Test series currently sits at 1-1.
