Former England batsman Marcus Trescothick believes that Jonathan Trott has made the right decision in leaving the Ashes tour due to a stress-related illness.
It was announced today that the 32-year-old would miss the remainder of the series in Australia as he has been dealing with the problem for some time.
Off-field issues dominated the later stages of Trecothick's England career, which eventually ended in retirement in 2008.
"There is no hiding place from it it's 24/7, your mind is an amazing machine that people are trying to struggle with all the time," Trescothick told BBC Radio Five Live.
"I can totally understand Jonathan's Trott's decision to leave to get back on track again. It would have been Jonathan's decision to keep going and keep fighting. You can try and turn things around and you have to allow the player to make that decision.
"But those problems can become too big and you need that break to get your mind back on track again. I'd say to him take a bit of time and get away from it for a while. The ECB are fantastic, we have dealt with these problems before and we have a good set-up for these kind of things."
Trott's departure comes after England lost the first Ashes Test to the Aussies in Brisbane.
