Boyd Rankin has admitted that he was shocked to be included in England's Ashes squad to face Australia later this year but is keen to make an impact Down Under.
The 24-year-old is one of three uncapped Test players to be named in the party having impressed in their ODI series earlier this month.
Following his call-up, Rankin is now hoping that he can take his chance against the Baggy Greens over the winter.
"I've had some good performances in the last few weeks in the ODI series but it is a big surprise when you get that phone call," Rankin told the press.
"I've shown what I can do and I think with the pitches out there, with that extra pace and bounce that I can trouble the batsmen.
"Chris Tremlett showed that in the last series that it does help a lot. I'm looking forward to the challenge and if I get my chance hopefully I will take it."
Rankin made 37 ODI appearances for Ireland before deciding to try to break into the England squad.
