Former England bowler Angus Fraser believes that Steven Finn is not at his best after the Middlesex man was dropped by the Three Lions for the third Ashes Test.

The 24-year-old was left out of Alastair Cook's side in their victory in the second Test against Australia after a below-par performance in the first Test at Trent Bridge.

Finn has now been omitted from England's 14-man squad for the match at Old Trafford and will now return to the county game with Middlesex.

Fraser told The Sun: "Finny has not bowled as well as he can do for a long while. When England field only four specialist bowlers, they need all of them to be consistent.

"He got some wickets in the Test in Auckland this year but I wouldn't say his bowling in New Zealand was as good as it can be. I don't think it is one particular thing, maybe a number of things.

"It is no one's fault, everyone is trying to help him, but things just aren't coming together for Finny."

Finn has taken 90 wickets in his 23 Test appearances for England.
