Fast bowler Mitchell Johnson will miss the fourth Test between Australia and India in Sydney with a hamstring injury.
The 33-year-old missed the first training session ahead of the Test, and the Australian medical team has subsequently ruled him out to ensure that he is available for future key matches, including the upcoming Tri Series with England and India and the World Cup.
Coach Darren Lehmann told reporters: "Mitchell is an important part of our plans for the remainder of our summer and we want him 100% right so we won't be taking any risks with him.
"We believe it is best for Mitchell to take this opportunity to freshen up and get his body fully fit ahead of the Tri Series."
Johnson had been a key part of the side, which is 2-0 up after wins in Brisbane and Adelaide, and has taken the second highest number of wickets in the series with 13.
His place will be taken by fellow left-arm bowler Mitchell Starc.
