Michael Clarke hands fitness boost to Australia ahead of first Test

Michael Clarke takes part in a training session with his Australia teammates as he continues his recovery from a hamstring problem ahead of the first Test with India.

Michael Clarke has come through his first training session unscathed as the Australia skipper looks to prove his fitness ahead of the first Test against India.

The 33-year-old has been struggling with a hamstring problem in recent weeks, but Darren Lehmann was optimistic when quizzed about his captain's fitness after a session in Sydney.

"As long as he's fine to do the running and can bat he'll play," Australia's head coach Darren Lehmann told reporters.

"We'll get him batting on Saturday and see how he goes. We'll be guided by medical staff, the captain himself and selectors."

The first Test begins in Adelaide on Tuesday, after being put back to allow players to mourn the death of batsman Phil Hughes, who passed away in Sydney last week after being struck in the head by a bouncer.
