Michael Vaughan: Ryan Harris retirement is a "massive blow" for Australia

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that Australia could be greatly affected by the retirement of bowler Ryan Harris in the upcoming Ashes series.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has claimed the loss of Ryan Harris is a "massive blow" for Australia ahead of the Ashes.

The 35-year-old had taken 57 wickets against the Three Lions in just 12 Test matches, but due to his injury problems the bowler opted to retire from the game ahead of the series which starts next week.

"Congrats on a fantastic career Ryan Harris. Great bowler and an even better bloke. Massive blow for Australia," Vaughan wrote on Twitter.

"Ryan Harris IMO was Australia's most dangerous threat in English conditions."

Pat Cummins has replaced Harris in the Australia squad ahead of the first Test next Wednesday.
