Former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath has claimed that current captain Michael Clarke has made the right call in choosing to retire from Test cricket.
Clarke has endured a dismal series so far, failing to go past 50 in any of his eight innings and leading Australia to a fourth successive Ashes loss in England.
The 34-year-old announced that the fifth Test at the Oval will be his last.
McGrath told BBC Sport: "I was there when Michael Clarke made his debut in Bangalore. He has been a big player for a long, long time and his average of about 50 is exceptional at Test level.
"I think he's made the right decision - he's going out on his own terms. He's a very strong character and I think he'll get plenty of support at the Oval."
Clarke has played in 114 Test matches to date, scoring at an average of 49.30 with 28 centuries.
