David Florence: 'This year crucial for Rio 2016 Olympics'

British slalom canoeist David Florence believes that this year is "crucial" leading up to the Rio Olympics next year.

David Florence believes that his form this year will be "crucial" ahead of the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The 32-year-old, who won silver at the London 2012 Games, ended three days of racing in the C1 class at the UK Canoe Slalom Championships undefeated.

Florence also took top spot with partner Richard Hounslow in the C2 category after winning by more than four seconds.

"This year's really crucial with Rio not that far away so it's a good time to be paddling well," BBC Sport quotes Florence as saying.

Florence will compete for Great Britain at the European Championships, the World Cup series and Olympic qualification at the World Championships.
