Joe Cordina "gutted" after semi-final defeat

Wales lightweight boxer Joe Cordina reveals his disappointment after bowing out in the semi-finals of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Wales boxer Joe Cordina has revealed his disappointment after bowing out in the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games on Friday.

Cordina picked up bronze in the lightweight division, but was denied the chance to fight for gold by Scotland's Charlie Flynn.

"I am gutted, that is the only word I can use, gutted," Cordina told Sports Mole.

"I got dragged into a fight. It was my own fault, I could have made it a lot easier for myself by letting him just walk onto my shots, but he is a tough boy. I got dragged into a fight."

Cordina, however, has vowed to take the positives from winning a medal.

"Not everyone can say that they came to a Commonwealth Games and won a medal so I will take that into consideration when I go into future tournaments and use it as a confidence-booster, but it would have been better if I was on the top of the podium," he added.

"I am going to take a little bit of time off and spend time with my family as it has been a hard few months leading up to these Games. So I am going to relax for the next couple of weeks and then from there I will see when I come back."

The finals of the men's boxing will take place tomorrow.
