Cut eye again hurts Muhammad Ali

Team GB boxer Muhammad Ali's quarter-final bout with Elvin Mamishzada at the 2015 World Championships is stopped when the Brit suffered a cut eye in the first round.

Team GB flyweight boxer Muhammad Ali's quarter-final bout with Elvin Mamishzada at the 2015 World Championships had to be stopped when the Brit suffered a cut eye in the first round.

Ali, who had a significant height advantage over his shorter opponent, started on the front foot, leading with the jab in an attempt to unsettle the Azerbaijani, who was not keen to engage.

The Brit suffered a cut to his eye with one minute of the round remaining, however, and all three judges believed that Mamishzada had done enough to win the first, despite struggling to land clean shots.

Ali's eye had to again be patched up in the second round and the referee decided that the contest could go no further, with Mamishzada advancing into the semi-finals, much to the disappointment of the British fighter, who also went out of the European Games earlier this year in similar circumstances.

Algeria's Mohamed Flissi will meet Mamishzada in semi-finals on Monday.
