Michaela Walsh warns Nicola Adams: 'I will beat you at Rio 2016'

Michaela Walsh is "100%" confident that she can beat Nicola Adams at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio should the pair meet in the women's flyweight category.

Ireland's Michaela Walsh has vowed to beat Nicola Adams on her way to claiming flyweight boxing gold at next year's Olympic Games.

The 22-year-old saw her European Games medal hopes fade away this morning when falling to a 3-0 defeat against the Russian Federation's Elena Saveleva.

Walsh is temporarily fighting at bantamweight, but she intends to drop back down a category ahead of Rio 2016 where she is likely to come up against Great Britain's Adams at some stage.

Despite the prospect of facing off against the 2012 Olympic champion, the Irish boxer was not fazed when she told reporters: "I will beat her. 100%."

Adams, who beat Walsh at last year's Commonwealth Games, faces a tough bout against Russia's Stoyka Petrova at the quarter-final stage of Baku 2015 on Monday afternoon.
