British super-middleweight Rocky Fielding has claimed the WBA intercontinental title with a stunning fifth-round stoppage of Noe Gonzalez Alcoba.
Fielding was facing the biggest test of his professional career against an opponent who had only suffered defeats to Felix Sturm, Adonis Stevenson and George Groves in 33 fights, and the opening six minutes suggested that the Liverpudlian would have to perform to his best.
The opening four rounds were fiercely contested as both men landed significant blows before Fielding scored with a flurry of punches to floor the Uruguayan in the fifth.
Gonzalez Alcoba made it back to his feet but Fielding reapplied the pressure to force the referee to call off the contest.
The victory was the 26-year-old's 19th successive victory in the paid ranks.
