Sean McGlinchey headed for podium finish

Sean McGlinchey is poised to take home at least a bronze medal for Northern Ireland after boxing his way into the semi-finals of the -81kg category.

Northern Ireland boxer Sean McGlinchey has guaranteed himself a podium finish at the Commonwealth Games after securing a semi-final place by beating Elly Ajowi Ochola.

The 22-year-old claimed a 3-0 victory over his Kenyan counterpart in tonight's quarter-final of the -81kg category to ensure that he would be leaving Glasgow with at least a bronze medal.

McGlinchey's last-four opponent is yet to be determined but the bout is scheduled to take place on Friday afternoon.
