Women's boxing will make its Commonwealth Games debut at the 2014 event in Glasgow, the International Boxing Association confirmed today.
A hugely popular feature of the London Olympic Games this summer, women's boxing made stars of British boxer Nicola Adams and Irish fighter Katie Taylor.
AIBA president Dr Ching-Kuo Wu confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday, which read: "This inclusion demonstrates the continued growth in popularity of women's boxing that I wish to continue promoting even further.
"Women boxers have reached world-class levels over the last couple of years and the Commonwealth Games will be another opportunity for these athletes to showcase their talents."
The women's boxing calendar in Glasgow will feature three weight classes, with gold medals on offer at flyweight (50 kg), lightweight (60 kg) and middleweight (75 kg).
Wu also revealed that he wants to expand the Olympic tournament at the next Games in Rio de Janeiro to at least six weight divisions.
