Katie Taylor successfully defends her world lightweight titles with a points win over Karen Elizabeth Carabajal, but European featherweight champion Jordan Gill is stopped by Kiko Martinez.

Katie Taylor has successfully defended her world lightweight titles with a routine points victory over Karen Elizabeth Carabajal at Wembley Arena.

Fighting for the first time since her epic Madison Square Garden showdown with Amanda Serrano in the spring, Taylor outclassed her game mandatory challenger.

Taylor dominated from the off, peppering her unbeaten opponent with combinations, but her insistence on providing an entertaining spectacle led to the legendary Irish woman taking unnecessary punishment.

Nevertheless, there could be no doubting that the 36-year-old was taking the majority of the rounds, a feeling which was confirmed when she prevailed by unanimous decision.

Taylor got the verdict by scorecards of 100-91, 99-91 and 98-92 respectively, setting up the prospect of fighting at Croke Park in Ireland in the spring or summer.

In the chief support, Jordan Gill suffered an emphatic fourth-round defeat to former world champion Kiko Martinez in the first defence of his European featherweight title.

Despite being regarded as the clear underdog by bookmakers, Martinez has made a career of upsetting the odds on the biggest stage, and the 36-year-old has effectively kept his career alive with a dominant showing.

Although Gill arguably won the first round, Martinez appeared to have notable success at the start of the second, and the the Spaniard took over in the third as he twice dropped his opponent.

A straight right and an uppercut did the damage, Gill now sporting a large cut down the bridge of his nose, and while the 28-year-old attempted to box and move in the fourth, Martinez was relentless when it came to hunting his opponent down.

After two more knockdowns and Gill's face a bloodied mess, the towel rightfully came in from his corner, leaving Martinez to celebrate another notable win on British shores.

Earlier in the night, Ellie Scotney won the European super-bantamweight title by defeating Mary Romero on points, while heavyweight Johnny Fisher made it seven fights unbeaten by stopping Dominik Musil in the first round.

Irish lightweight Gary Cully also made a statement as he blitzed Jaouad Belmehdi to stop his French opponent in just 35 seconds.
