Freddie Roach admits that he tried to stop Amir Khan from returning to round four of his defeat to Danny Garcia on Saturday night.

Freddie Roach has revealed that he nearly stopped Amir Khan's fight against Danny Garcia after the third round.

Garcia defeated his opponent in four rounds but Roach admits that he considered stopping Khan from continuing after the third round.

The British fighter's trainer said: "He got caught with a shot right on the money and that was it, he never really recovered after the first shot.

"When he came back to the corner he wasn't responding really well in that minute break. I said I''m going to stop the fight but he said 'no, I'm okay'.

"He showed a lot of heart. We should have boxed a little bit more but that's the way things go."

The defeat was Khan's third of his career.
