Scott Quigg opponent named for September bout

WBA super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg will face Paulas Ambunda in his next title defence at the Phones4U Arena on September 13.

British super-bantamweight Scott Quigg will defend his WBA belt against Namibian Paulus Ambunda at the Phones4U Arena on September 13.

Quigg had hoped to face WBC ruler Leo Santa Cruz, but after terms were unable to be agreed, promoter Eddie Hearn has paired the Bury-based fighter with the current IBF and WBA international title holder.

Ambunda, who is a former WBO bantamweight champion, has won 21 of his 22 matches, but he will be competing in just his second bout at 122lbs when he takes on Quigg next month.

It has also been announced that Anthony Crolla will attempt to move a step closer to a world title opportunity in the lightweight division against Mexican Gamaliel Diaz.
