Jim McDonnell: 'James DeGale still waiting for Carl Froch decision'

Jim McDonnell, James DeGale's trainer, admits that his fighter is still waiting for Carl Froch to make a decision about a potential meeting between the British pair.

James DeGale's trainer Jim McDonnell has admitted that he is still unsure whether a bout will be agreed between his fighter and Carl Froch.

The IBF has ordered super-middleweight title holder Froch to begin talks with DeGale, who is the mandatory challenger, but the Olympic champion could be forced to look at other options soon.

"I've heard Rocky Fielding's name mentioned because he's ranked number nine with the IBF, and the other one I've heard is Andre Dirrell," McDonnell told ESPN.

"I've also heard Mikkel Kessler's name mentioned, but he's not even ranked with the IBF. It doesn't matter who is in the other corner at the moment, James will just get on with his training until it is sorted out.

"James wants that fight with Froch more than any other; it's a really big fight that will capture the British public's imagination, but only Carl Froch knows what decision he will make. We are all guessing at what might happen at the moment. But the clock is ticking."

Groves has won 10 successive fights since losing to George Groves in May 2011.
