Mayweather: I won't give Pacquiao 50-50 split

Floyd Mayweather Jnr says that he will not grant Manny Pacquiao the 50-50 purse split the Filipino is demanding.

Floyd Mayweather Jnr has explained why he will not grant Manny Pacquiao the 50-50 purse split the Filipino is demanding.

Pacquiao has said that a deal to fight broke down after Mayweather refused to give up 50 percent of the pay-per-view revenue.

The Filipino then described his rival's offer of $40m (£25.5m) as "embarrassing".

However, Mayweather told Bob Costas on NBC: "I done my homework and saw what he [Pacquiao] was making for big fights. The offer that I made him, I told him $40 million and I told him I would wire him $20 [million] in 72 hours.

"The manager said he would get back to me, a guy by the name of Michael Koncz flew to Las Vegas to talk to me because he said that he was in control. I met with him a couple of times and tried to make the fight and then they said they were going a different route.

"I'm not giving up the [50-50] split. I'm not. I can't afford to. No I'm not. I gave this sport my whole life. I've been dominating this sport. I have record breaking numbers that I have done. [Pacquiao] has no record breaking numbers. With or without Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather is okay. Floyd Mayweather fights for Floyd Mayweather. At the end of the day Floyd Mayweather has to be happy."

The unbeaten American faces Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 5.
