Lennox Lewis believes that Ricky Hatton can "lead a better life" after retiring from boxing.

Lennox Lewis has said that Ricky Hatton can hold his head high after announcing his retirement from boxing.

The Hitman confirmed he will not be looking to fight again after a knockout in his comeback bout against Vyacheslav Senchenko last night.

The former heavyweight world champion told BBC Radio Five Live: "I've always got love for him. I feel he's got a lot of good people around him and I don't think he's going to fail in anything he does. He has to hold his head high.

"I hope that he came away with some good things because it's very important we have to improve upon ourselves all the time and think positively.

"Hopefully he's learned from all those bad things that happened and he can go forward and lead a better life. I think he should be all right."

The 34-year-old suffered drink and drug problems following his 2009 defeat to Manny Pacquiao, but now works to promote boxing matches and runs a gym to train other fighters.
