Amir Khan: 'Nathan Cleverly should seek Freddie Roach help'

British boxer Amir Khan believes that former trainer Freddie Roach could help Nathan Cleverly recover from his WBO light-heavyweight title loss on Saturday night.

Amir Khan has insisted that Nathan Cleverly would become a "different fighter" under the watchful eye of trainer Freddie Roach.

Roach guided Khan to two world titles, and the British welterweight is confident that his former trainer would turn Cleverly into a "different fighter" after losing his WBO light-heavyweight title to Sergey Kovalev on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old told BBC Radio Wales Sport: "Freddie's a great trainer, very good and knows what he's talking about. He knows exactly how to build a fighter and how to put that confidence back in the fighter.

"If you look at me when I got beaten by Prescott in my first defeat, Freddie brought me back and I became a two-time world champion.

"I think that will be amazing for him if he goes to America. It will be a big change for him in his career, but I really believe that it will make a big difference and he'll come back a different fighter."

Cleverly's defeat was the first in his 27-fight career.
