Eddie Hearn: 'Kell Brook, Amir Khan unlikely to fight this year'

Eddie Hearn claims that world champion Kell Brook is unlikely to meet British rival Amir Khan this summer.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has admitted that he is not expecting a summer fight to be agreed between British rivals Kell Brook and Amir Khan.

Unbeaten world champion Brook has repeatedly suggested that he wants to meet Khan, who is eager to set up a bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr in Las Vegas this year.

Hearn has added to the doubts by admitting that it will be difficult to schedule a fight as Khan will not be able to compete during Ramadan, which begins on June 18.

"Amir is right to try and get a fight with Floyd Mayweather, it's the biggest one out there for him and I understand that, but now it looks like he's not going to get it and he won't be able to fight him in September either because of Ramadan," Hearn told ESPN.

"We were looking at Wembley in June but the problem with Khan is I'm not sure he can do that because of Ramadan. He will have to fight in May or early June but I'm not sure Kell can do that because he's fighting on March 28.

"I'm not too optimistic. We are now turning our attention to Juan Manuel Marquez, who we are talking to this week in London, Marcos Maidana and [Timothy] Bradley because we want Kell Brook in a pay per view event this summer, June or July, at Bramall Lane."

Brook will defend his IBF welterweight title against Jo Jo Dan in Sheffield next month.
