WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin has indicated that he would be willing to drop down a weight division in order to face Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather has revealed that he intends to retire from the sport after his 49th fight in September, but after relinquishing his world titles, it remains to be seen who he will choose to face in his final bout.
Golovkin is regarded as the natural successor to Mayweather in the pound-for-pound standings, and the Kazakh fighter has admitted that his dream scenario is gaining an opportunity to face the American before he finishes his career.
The 33-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "It is my dream fight. Obviously, Floyd, he is a great champion, with a little bit different style. He's a smart guy. He does a lot of moving.
"My style is a little bit different. I like drama, I like a real fight, I like close fights. I want a big show with big drama."
Golovkin defends his world title against Willie Monroe Jr in California next weekend.
