Gennady Golovkin: Kell Brook's weight strategy is "interesting"

Unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin admits that he is intrigued by the strategy used by Kell Brook as he bids to make 160lbs at Friday's weigh-in.

Gennady Golovkin has described Kell Brook's attempt to make 160lbs as "interesting" ahead of their middleweight clash at London's O2 Arena on Saturday night.

Brook is stepping up two weight divisions to face the hard-hitting Kazakh, but he currently weighs heavier than his opponent ahead of Friday's weigh-in.

At the last check weigh-in, Brook was four pounds heavier than the unified world champion, and Golovkin has suggested that he is surprised by the approach used by the Sheffield fighter.

The 34-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It is interesting for me. He is going to come in at 160 but a month before the fight, he was 176 and right now, he is 167.

"My weight is usually 165 and 163 so he is huge. He looks good. He looks strong and big so it is interesting. I understand that it is not an easy fight and it is very serious."

Both men head into the bout having never previously lost in the professional ranks.
