Carl Frampton targets Scott Quigg showdown for 2016

Carl Frampton says that he is aiming to set up a clash with Scott Quigg for next year.

Carl Frampton is targeting a 2016 showdown with Scott Quigg for his next professional bout.

The IBF super-bantamweight champion will not fight again this year, but has reopened negotiations with WBA title-holder Quigg's camp about a future meeting.

"I'm confident and optimistic that the fight can be made - whatever it takes, I'm ready," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

He added: "It's the fight which whets my appetite the most.

"I would be happy to fight him anywhere but is it fair for the champion to travel to Manchester to fight the challenger? I don't think it is."

Frampton has not defended his title since defeating Alejandro Gonzalez on points in July.
