Welshman Fred Evans hopes to turn professional after picking up the welterweight silver medal at the London Olympics.

Olympic silver medallist Fred Evans is reportedly hoping to turn professional by the end of the year.

The 22-year-old from Wales won the welterweight silver medal in London and is European champion.

He has recently boxed in the World Series of Boxing, against a mix of professional and amateur opponents, but his trainer Tony Borg admitted that a move to the pro ranks is not far away.

"He needs turning professional to get him going again and motivate him," Borg told WalesOnline.

"He feels he's going over the same ground and boxing the same people and has gone a bit flat.

"We will sit down with a number of different promoters and see what they bring to the table."

Evans became Wales's most successful Olympic boxer in London, beating the bronze medal attained by Ralph Evans in Munich 1972.
