Leroy Hindley 'prefers' no headgear

New Zealand boxer Leroy Findley says that he 'prefers no headgear' when questioned on the rule change for the Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand boxer Leroy Findley has claimed that he 'prefers no headgear', when questioned on the rule change at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

Headguards will not be used at the Commonwealths for the first time in history, but Findley believes that it is a positive change.

"I prefer no headgear, to be honest. When you have the padding on the front, your head is more of a target. You definitely feel more free without headgear," he told reporters.

However, Findley has claimed that illegal use of the head is a concern without protection.

"Yeah definitely, I've had that. Opponents do that," Findley continued.

The official weigh-in for the boxing will take place on Thursday.
