Katie Taylor "hungry" to improve legacy in Baku

Katie Taylor warns her rivals at the European Games that she still has an appetite for more major titles.

Ireland boxer Katie Taylor has warned her boxing rivals that she is as hungry as ever to win another gold medal after kicking off her European Games in style today.

Taylor, searching for major championship title number 18, thumped Bulgaria's Eliseeva Denitsa 3-0 in Baku to advance into the quarter-finals.

Denitsa was the last person to beat the Olympic champion way back in 2011 - albeit in controversial circumstances - and the 28-year-old was happy to exorcise her demons as she now looks to improve her legacy.

"I think I'm more hungry now than I ever was. I want to leave a great legacy behind me and continue to win major championships," she told reporters.

"I've been over here for two and a half weeks before my first fight and I was itching to get in there today. I knew it would be a tough fight because I've boxed her so many times before.

"She's such a top-rank boxer, a great warrior. I knew I was going to be blowing at some stage in the fight, but it was a great performance. I'm delighted."

Taylor faces Sweden's Ida Lundblad in the last-eight stage on Wednesday.
