Nicola Adams claims flyweight title at Commonwealth Games

Nicola Adams beats Michaela Walsh to win flyweight gold at the Commonwealth Games.

England's Nicola Adams has beaten Michaela Walsh of Northern Ireland to claim the gold medal in the flyweight final at the Commonwealth Games.

The Olympic champion added another achievement to her collection thanks to a split-decision win over her Northern Irish opponent in a cagey battle, with two of the three judges putting the 31-year-old ahead on points.

Walsh refused take a step backwards in the first round, but failed to match the clean blows landed by Adams in the opening stages.

Adams increased the tempo in the next round to cause problems for Walsh, before adopting a counter-attacking approach in the third to land a couple of crucial right hands.

Walsh expressed her surprise when the decision was confirmed, having struggled to dominate the fourth and final round.
