Great Britain knocked out of EuroBasket 2013, lose next year's Olympic funding

Great Britain go out in the first round of EuroBasket 2013 by losing to Ukraine, meaning that they also lose next year's Olympic funding.

Great Britain's basketball team will not receive next year's Olympic funding because of today's early exit from EuroBasket in Slovenia.

Joe Prunty's side had to finish in the top six in Ljubljana but had their exit confirmed by losing 87-68 at the hands of Ukraine in today's final first-round group game.

GB began their campaign with an overtime victory against Israel but then went down to France and Belgium before yesterday's triumph over Germany meant that a positive result against Ukraine today would see them through to round two.

They never quite got on top of the Ukrainians, though, cutting the lead to two at the start of the second quarter before collapsing to a 17-point deficit at half time.

Devon van Oostrum led all scorers with 12 points but it was not enough as GB never reduced the lead to single figures after half time.

The nation's two NBA players, Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls and Portland Trail Blazers' Joel Freeland, did not take part in the tournament.
