Anthony Davis pulls out of All-Star game with shoulder injury

Anthony Davis pulls out of the All-Star game as he continues his battle with a shoulder injury.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has confirmed that he will not play in Sunday's All-Star game due to a shoulder injury.

The 21-year-old was set to start for the Western Conference team in New York, but after missing the last two games with an injury he picked up while dunking the ball in last Saturday's loss to the Chicago Bulls, the two-time All-Star has decided to focus on returning to full fitness.

"After careful thought and consideration, I've decided I will not be participating in this year's NBA All-Star competitions. I want to thank the fans for voting me into the All-Star game and I am sorry I will not be able to play," Davis revealed in a statement.

"While I'm disappointed that I won't be able to compete this weekend, I'm still very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the All-Star events in New York and celebrate our game with some of the NBA's greatest figures.

"More than anything, I am anxious to get healthy and back on the court with my teammates after the All-Star break."

The NBA has not yet revealed who will replace Davis.
