Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott has revealed that D'Angelo Russell will be given more responsibility with the ball in his hand.
Russell started his career with just four points and two assists in Wednesday's 112-111 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the second pick in this year's Draft was mainly asked to play off the ball as the Lakers used Jordan Clarkson as the leader on offense.
However, Lakers coach Byron Scott claims that he intends to use his point guard differently after the defeat in their season opener.
"I really just wanted to up the tempo with Jordan pushing," Scott said at Thursday's practice. "Jordan's a little bit more experienced.
"[Russell is] probably a little bit better of a decision-maker, even at 19 years old and being in his rookie year. So we want him on the ball right now, and then we go to either side and we've got Kobe or Jordan."
The Lakers play their first road game against the Sacramento Kings on Friday night.
