Chicago Bulls' Taj Gibson hopeful on Derrick Rose injury

Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson is optimistic that Derrick Rose's orbital fracture will not rule the point guard out of action for an extended period.

Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson has revealed that he is hopeful that Derrick Rose's injury is not as severe as first feared.

The 26-year-old suffered an orbital fracture near his left eye during the first practice of his side's training camp, the latest in a series of injuries sustained by the former MVP over the past few seasons.

Gibson believes that he may have been the culprit when the duo were jostling during scrimmage, but he feels that it is all part of the competition during camp.

He told reporters: "He got a little elbow. We don't know the [severity] of it, but hopefully he'll be fine. I know he's tough.

"But it was one of those plays, especially in practice, where everybody's going hard. It's just tough.

"It might have been me, but it's just one of those plays where everybody's going so hard and it's real physical out there, so hopefully he'll be okay."

The Bulls have not put a timetable on Rose's return to the court after he undergoes surgery to repair the fracture.
