Rajon Rondo not ruling out opening-night return

Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo fails to rule out the possibility of returning on the opening night of the new season.

Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo has revealed that he has not ruled out making a return from suffering a broken bone in his hand for the opening night of the new NBA season.

The 28-year-old underwent a re-evaluation last week which showed progress in his recovery, but he has not yet been cleared for contact just eight days ahead of the season tipoff.

"I don't know. I still haven't had any contact yet," Rondo told reporters.

"The opener is a little bit over a week away. I don't want to set goals; I just want to go as my hand heals."

Rondo had surgery on his left hand just over three weeks ago, with the team setting a recovery timetable of six to eight weeks.

The Celtics star insists that he can dribble and catch but he is not yet confident in driving to the basket and receiving contact ahead of the first game of the season against the Brooklyn Nets on October 29.
