USA to lodge bid for 2024 Olympic Games

The United States Olympic Committee will launch a bid for one of four cities to host the Olympic Games in 2024.

The United States Olympic Committee have signalled their intention to lodge a bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

One city from Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington DC will be chosen to go up against bids from the likes of Italy and Germany, who have also officially confirmed their participation in the bidding process.

CEO Scott Blackmun is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "An entire generation of Americans has not had the opportunity to witness the amazing spectacle of an Olympic and Paralympic Games on home soil.

"We believe it's important to bring the Games back to the United States to ensure the lasting strength of the movements."

USA last staged an Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, while the last Winter Games in America took place in Salt Lake City in 2002.
