Denise Lewis: 'Katarina Johnson-Thompson carrying scar tissue'

Denise Lewis believes that Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson is carrying "scar tissue" after crashing out of the long jump final.

Former Olympic champion Denise Lewis has claimed that Katarina Johnson-Thompson is carrying "scar tissue" following her disappointment in the heptathlon at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

The 22-year-old crashed out of the event earlier this week after three foul attempts in the long jump.

Today, the Liverpudlian's hopes of a medal rested on the long jump final, but following three tentative attempts, the Brit finished 11th in the pack.

"I think it is really evident that she is carrying scar tissue and who wouldn't after such an awful experience for someone so young," Lewis said during the BBC's broadcast. "I am sure she came into the competition and expected to get through to the final eight, but it was not meant to be."

Johnson-Thompson won silver in this event at the World Indoor Championships last year.
