Dina Asher-Smith: "I didn't expect to run a PB"

British record holder Dina Asher-Smith admits that she was surprised to improve her personal best in the 200m heats at the World Athletics Championships.

Dina Asher-Smith has admitted that she did not expect to run a new personal best in the heats of the women's 200m at the World Athletics Championships.

The 19-year-old, who is the world junior champion and British record holder, ran 22.22s in Beijing to progress to the semi-finals with the fastest time.

Asher-Smith told BBC Sport: "I'm really, really happy. I didn't expect to run a PB in the heat. I did feel relaxed which is why I was quite surprised with the time. The three who won gold have inspired us. I just have to see how the next round goes."

Bianca Williams and Margaret Adeoye also qualified for the semis, ensuring that all three British entrants progressed.
