Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill has announced that she will miss the indoor athletics season because of an achilles injury.

The 30-year-old, who won gold in the heptathlon at the London 2012 Olympics, returned to competing last year after missing the 2014 season with an injury and to have her first baby, son Reggie.

The British athlete swiftly returned to form by winning gold at the World Championships in Beijing, but her preparations for the Olympics in Rio have been disrupted after suffering an achilles problem.

Ennis-Hill confirmed the setback to Sky Sports News on Friday morning, but insisted that her withdrawal from indoor competitions was a precautionary measure in order to get to the "root of the problem".

The two-time world champion expects to be fit for the outdoor season and Rio 2016.
