Zharnel Hughes targets World Championships after switching to Great Britain

Anguilla-born Zharnel Hughes reveals that he is targeting an appearance at the World Championships after he was cleared to represent Great Britain.

Sprinter Zharnel Hughes has revealed that he will push to earn selection for Team GB at this year's World Championships.

Despite not being born in Great Britain, Hughes, along with four other athletes, has been declared eligible for the World Championships and Olympic Games, and Anguilla-born teenager is looking forward to featuring at a major event.

After revealing that he was "grateful" for the decision made by British Athletics, the 19-year-old told BBC Radio 5 live: "The target is the Olympic Games for sure but right now, I am focusing on the World Championships.

"Execution is key all the time for me. I want to get to the World Championship and get my times."

Earlier this month, Hughes came close to beating training partner Usain Bolt in New York after finishing second behind the Jamaican in the 200m.
