Mo Farah breaks the two-mile indoor world record at Birmingham Grand Prix

Britain's Mo Farah breaks the two-mile indoor world record at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix, his first ever world record-breaking run.

Britain's Mo Farah has broken the two-mile indoor world record at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix.

The world record is double Olympic gold medallist Farah's first, achieved in eight minutes and 3.4 seconds, beating Kenenisa Bekele's previous record by 0.9 seconds.

"This means a lot to me," Farah told BBC Sport. "I love representing my country, giving something back to all the people. Unbelievable."

"Training's been going well. I knew I could go close but I hadn't raced in so long. The crowd got really behind me - I'm so pleased. It was an amazing atmosphere.

"So many people have asked me when I was going to beat a world record. I really wanted to do it. Thank you, everyone."

The win comes after Farah was involved in a Twitter spat with Team GB teammate Andy Vernon earlier in the week.
