Jessica Ennis-Hill withdraws from Birmingham Grand Prix

Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill withdraws from this weekend's Birmingham Grand Prix.

Jessica Ennis-Hill won't appear at this weekend's Birmingham Grand Prix after deciding to rest after her performance in Gotzis last week.

Despite competing in the first heptathlon since 2012, Ennis-Hill achieved the points total required to qualify for next summer's Olympic Games, which has enabled her to slow down her return since giving birth to her first child.

The 29-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I have missed a volume of training over the past few months, since having my baby, due to problems with my Achilles and there is still a lot of work to do.

"So we have made the decision for me to take the usual week off post a heptathlon to recover and then to get back into solid training."

400m runner Christine Ohuruogu has also withdrawn from the event through injury.
